Selecting the Appropriate Federal Granting Agency

SSHRC, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research support and promote high-quality research in a wide variety of disciplines and areas. In areas of research where there is overlap between or among agency mandates, some applications could be eligible for support by more than one federal granting agency.

The three agencies have developed jointly guidelines on the submission of applications to and the acceptance of applications by the agencies, as well as general guidelines on the eligibility of subject matter at each agency. Detailed guidelines have been developed for researchers working in health and psychology. Other areas of overlap include, but are not necessarily limited to, geography, business, management studies, physical education and optometry.
