Internationally funded Knowledge Synthesis Grants to deepen understanding of culture and history
May 15, 2024
SSHRC, Genome Canada, Canadian Heritage, and UK Research and Innovation’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (UKRI-AHRC) have awarded more than $900,000 in funding for 31 Knowledge Synthesis Grants on the topic of evolving narratives of cultures and histories.
This international funding opportunity will fund projects in two streams:
- Stream 1 is for researchers affiliated with an eligible Canadian institution. In this stream, SSHRC and Canadian Heritage are jointly funding 25 grants, while Genome Canada is funding one grant.
- Stream 2 is for international collaborations of two researchers—one based in Canada and the other in the United Kingdom—who are affiliated with eligible institutions in their respective countries. SSHRC and UKRI-AHRC are jointly funding five grants in this stream.
The themes being explored through this funding opportunity include the history of colonialism, racial inequity in academia, impacts of climate change on cultures, foodscapes in cities, governance of online platforms, and more. This funding supports projects that will bring together existing research to help deepen our understanding of these issues and identify knowledge gaps to be considered for future research.
