SSHRC has recently become aware of an online scam on Facebook (and possibly other platforms) involving individuals or accounts claiming to represent SSHRC. The scam promises money from SSHRC in exchange for personal information and appears to target retirees and the elderly.
SSHRC representatives will never ask for personal information or offer SSHRC funds over social media or messaging apps. SSHRC only awards money via eligible institutions, through a rigorous merit review process, for research, career achievement (Impact Awards) or excellence in research communication (The Storytellers).
If you suspect that you have been targeted by this scam, please report your concerns to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
