The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and SSHRC have joined forces to create the Collaborative Housing Research Network. This research network’s mission is to stimulate innovative thinking and novel housing solutions for Canadians.
CMHC is providing $13.9 million for this funding opportunity in support of the National Housing Strategy. SSHRC will support the merit review process for this funding opportunity, which is designed to ensure the highest standards of excellence and impartiality. Once granted, these funds will support research that focuses on housing conditions, needs and solutions in the following priority areas:
- housing for those in greatest need;
- community housing sustainability;
- northern housing;
- sustainable housing and communities; and
- a balanced supply of housing.
The first stage of the initiative will consist of one-year Partnership Development Grants, which require both an academic and a non-academic partner from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors. Partner organizations are expected to support the activities of the partnership through cash and/or in-kind contributions.
Applicants will be welcome to apply for a Partnership Development Grant beginning in mid-July 2018.
Successful applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal during a second stage of Partnership Grants in November 2019. Together, the successful Partnership Grant recipients will form the Collaborative Housing Research Network.
