SSHRC ambassadors are responsible for sharing their experience through photos and videos during events at the 2018 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences. They communicate what’s going on and inspire others to pursue studies in the social sciences and humanities.

Julie Vaudrin-Charette

Julie Vaudrin-Charette

University of Ottawa


Julie Vaudrin-Charette is a doctoral candidate at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education. Her research explores the connections between Indigenous languages and the decolonization of pedadgogy in Québec's colleges. As a curriculum advisor at the Cégep de l’Outaouais, she works with a team of teachers and Anishinabeg educators to make Algonquin territory, culture and language more visible inside the college. Julie's work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaborations, multilingual teaching and learning, and the creation of ethical transformative spaces in education.

Meagan Black works for Arc Poetry Magazine, and is currently completing her master of fine arts in creative writing at the University of British Columbia. She has had work published in Carousel, ottawater, The New Haven Review, and other literary magazines. She will have a short article on Robert Sawyer in an anthology released next fall. Outside of school, her interests include used book sales, experimenting with hybrid literary forms, and never finishing the edits on her Young Adult novel written in verse.

Eric Powell

Eric Powell is a sound artist, composer, teacher, and tinkerer, currently completing his PhD in communication studies at Concordia University. His research brings together maps, interactive technologies, and field recording to create unique interfaces for exploring city sounds. His work invites users to listen in new ways, challenging them to rethink the role of sound in their daily lives. He is a founding member of several media arts organizations, and is currently the chair of the board of the Canadian Association for Sound Ecology. Eric regularly collaborates with other artists and academics, enabling him to share his work around the world.
