Launch of special call for research on artificial intelligence, health and society

Join the research community investigating impacts of AI on the health sector

SSHRC has joined the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) for the next competition of the Collaborative Health Research Projects initiative. This includes a special call focused on artificial intelligence (AI), health and society.

Successful projects will bring together researchers from natural sciences and engineering, health sciences, and social sciences and humanities, to collaborate on innovative AI research applied to health. They will also investigate ethical, legal and/or societal impacts associated with the development, scale and spread of AI in the health sector.

The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $24.875 million. Of this amount, up to $5.975 million may be available through CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC to fund applications relevant to the special call. This amount may increase if additional funding partners participate. The maximum duration of support for any one grant is three years.

The deadline to submit a letter of intent is May 29, 2018, and the deadline to submit a full application is October 30, 2018. Successful applicants will be notified in March 2019.
