Canadian Research and Development Classification 2019
The draft research classification standard, tentatively titled the Canadian Research and Development Classification (CRDC) 2019, is being jointly developed by the federal research granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, along with the Canada Foundation for Innovation and Statistics Canada.
The CRDC 2019 is the collective name for a set of 3 related classifications developed for the measurement and analysis of research and experimental development undertaken in Canada. The classifications are:
- type of activity
- fields of research
- socio-economic objectives
Fields of research
This classification allows activities to be categorized according to the field of research based on the methodology used in the research and experimental development that is being considered. The categories in this classification include major fields of research and emerging areas of study.
The fields are a hierarchical classification as illustrated in the example below.
