Executive summary

The second joint SSHRC-NSERC Leaders meeting was held virtually from December 1 to 3, 2021. The meeting included separate days for SSHRC Leaders (December 1) and NSERC Leaders (December 2), followed by one day of joint SSHRC and NSERC sessions (December 3), covering interests and concerns identified by Leaders in previous meetings. The meeting was attended by 115 members of the networks, from 79 institutions. The objective of the meeting was to engage SSHRC and NSERC Leaders on key developments related to policy, programs and research-related activities.

The joint session featured a conversation with SSHRC and NSERC presidents; “Ask us Anything” sessions on tri-agency institutional programs; a session about the tri-agency research training strategy; and a community update on research data management strategies.

Overall, Leaders provided positive feedback on the meeting. Of respondents, 77% reported being satisfied or very satisfied with the meeting. Respondents also expressed a high level of interest in holding future joint SSHRC-NSERC meetings, with 94% of respondents indicating they would be highly or moderately interested in future joint meetings. The SSHRC Leaders and NSERC Leaders secretariats are currently reviewing feedback and suggested topics for future joint meetings.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all SSHRC and NSERC staff who made the event possible, as well as the SSHRC and NSERC Leaders and guest panelists for their participation and thoughtful contributions.

The next joint Leaders meeting will be held in December 2022.
