Government of Canada launches new research fund to push beyond the frontiers of Canadian science
The Canada Research Coordinating Committee has launched the New Frontiers in Research Fund, a tri-agency initiative to support international, interdisciplinary, fast-breaking and higher-risk research. The fund includes three funding streams: Exploration, Transformation and International. The inaugural competition will be under the Exploration stream. To better tap into the innovative ideas of Canada's emerging scholars, this competition will support early career researchers.

Rapid Research Fund for Ebola to support four new projects
Four interdisciplinary Canadian and African research teams will lead projects to improve Ebola response capacities in at-risk countries. The teams are supported through the Rapid Research Fund for Ebola Virus Disease Outbreaks, a partnership between the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the International Development Research Centre and SSHRC.

Major new investment in diverse research talent ushers in a new era for discovery in Canada
Through Budget 2018, the Government of Canada is investing $210 million over the next five years in the Canada Research Chairs Program to add 285 new chairs to support equity, diversity, inclusiveness and early career researchers. This investment includes a supplement of up to $20,000 for new and active Tier 2 Chairs to help them establish their research projects.

Did you know that the federal granting agencies have harmonized their self-identification data collection process as part of their commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion? By completing the questionnaire, you allow the agencies to monitor the equity performance of their programs. The goal is to remove barriers faced by underrepresented and disadvantaged groups to ensure equitable access to all research programs.

Combatting gender-based violence in North America and beyond
One victim's story can yield profound insights. But encountering multiple stories from many survivors can offer a more comprehensive grasp of violence as a societal problem. Nancy Kang, Canada Research Chair in Transnational Feminisms and Gender-Based Violence, is proposing innovative ways of understanding the complex forms of harm that women of colour in North America have historically endured.
