Goal

The goal of SSHRC’s Research Partnerships program is to realize social sciences and humanities research’s potential for influence, benefit and impact, within and beyond postsecondary institutions, by supporting research and related activities and tools that facilitate co-creating and exchanging research knowledge.

Context

Those who stand to benefit from publicly funded research results in the social sciences and humanities—diverse groups of researchers, policy-makers, business leaders, community groups, educators and the media—should, ideally, have the knowledge they need, when they need it, in useful forms.

The Research Partnerships program provides opportunities for researchers across disciplines, research areas and sectors to work together with partners to build understanding and advance knowledge through research partnerships and collaborative knowledge mobilization activities, all while supporting the next generation of scholars.

Objectives

The objectives of the Research Partnerships program are to:

Funding opportunities

For the most up-to-date information on all funding opportunities, see SSHRC’s funding search tool.

All applicants are invited to consider addressing in their research proposal one or more of the 16 future global challenges identified under SSHRC’s Imagining Canada’s Future (ICF) initiative. This initiative also provides funding opportunities for cross-sectoral knowledge mobilization (ICF Knowledge Synthesis Grants below).

SSHRC, in alignment with its Indigenous Research Statement of Principles, also welcomes applications involving Indigenous research. Interested applicants are invited to visit SSHRC’s Indigenous Research page for information.

For individuals and teams

SSHRC provides funding for knowledge mobilization carried out by individual scholars and teams of researchers.

For formal partnerships

SSHRC provides funding for research, research training and knowledge mobilization carried out by new and existing formal partnerships. See Partnerships for more information.

Impact Awards

SSHRC Impact Awards celebrate the achievements of Canada's top leaders, thinkers and researchers in the social sciences and humanities, through five award categories. Eligible institutions can nominate researchers or students who hold or have held SSHRC funding relevant to the award category.

Joint initiatives

SSHRC collaborates with organizations from across the not-for-profit, private and public sectors to support and promote training, research and connection activities in the social sciences and humanities. SSHRC’s joint initiatives are designed to reflect its strategic objectives and mandate, inform decision-makers, and, in certain cases, address specific needs of its partners.

For a complete list of available joint initiatives, consult SSHRC’s funding search tool.
