Prizes
SSHRC awards a number of prizes to outstanding students and researchers in the social sciences and humanities:
SSHRC Gold Medal for Achievement in Research
($100,000)
The SSHRC Gold Medal for Achievement
in Research is the Council’s highest
research honour. It is awarded to an individual whose leadership,
dedication, and originality of thought have significantly advanced
understanding in his or her field of research, enriched Canadian
society, and contributed to the country's cultural and intellectual
life.
SSHRC Aurora Prize ($25,000)
The SSHRC Aurora Prize recognizes
an outstanding new researcher who is building a reputation for exciting
and original research in the social sciences or humanities.
SSHRC Postdoctoral Prize ($10,000)
The SSHRC Postdoctoral Prize is awarded each year to the most outstanding
SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship recipient.
SSHRC William E. Taylor Fellowship ($5,000)
The William E. Taylor Fellowship is awarded each year to the most
outstanding SSHRC doctoral award recipient.
Molson Prize ($50,000)
Each year, the Canada Council
for the Arts, in conjunction with SSHRC, awards two $50,000
prizes to distinguished Canadians, one in the arts and the other
in the social sciences and humanities. Funded by a $1 million endowment
from the Molson Family Foundation, the Molson Prizes honour Canadians
who have made important contributions to Canada’s cultural and intellectual
heritage.
