Kirk Luther: I remember being at the awards ceremony last year as a SSHRC Storyteller, and I was in awe of the winners of the Impact Awards.

After a lot of hard work and dedication, I get to join them in this honour today.

Over the past number of years, I have conducted research that has led to positive changes within the criminal justice system.

A large part of ensuring these positive changes is effective knowledge mobilization; that is, sharing my research findings with policy-makers and practitioners and calling for action.

We have the responsibility to conduct research that helps us to understand the world around us and improve the lives of Canadians.

So I’d like to take this opportunity once again to thank SSHRC for helping world class researchers reach their potential. And I’m very grateful to receive this honour today.

Thank you.
