Pilot project funds college-based social innovation research


The Government of Canada launched the $15-million Community and College Social Innovation Fund (CCSIF) at Red River College in Winnipeg on Nov. 21, delivering on a commitment in Economic Action Plan 2014 to fund research projects at colleges and polytechnics that foster social innovation in Canada. Under the CCSIF, colleges and polytechnics can partner with community organizations and businesses to apply for funding to undertake collaborative projects that address community issues.

Celebrating outstanding research

Beverley Diamond of Memorial University of Newfoundland took home the Gold Medal, worth $100,000 in research money, at SSHRC’s annual Impact Awards ceremony on Nov. 2. The five Impact awards recognize Canada’s top researchers in the social sciences and humanities.

Partnering on the IPaSS initiative

SSHRC announced it will award $10 million to four research teams to explore how to create safe, sustainable and more prosperous societies. The program, known as IPaSS, is a joint initiative with the International Development Research Centre.

SSHRC’s Storytellers contest challenges postsecondary students to show Canadians how social sciences and humanities research is affecting our lives, our world and our future for the better. We’re looking for storytellers and data journalists, social media masters and filmmakers. Submissions accepted January 5-30, 2015.
