Women researchers innovating for change
The United Nation's theme for International Women's Day in 2019 is Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change, which focuses on creative ways to advance gender equality and women's empowerment. In keeping with this theme, we highlight the women Canada 150 Research Chairs and their innovative research. These world-leading experts are working in areas such as governance and security, innovative approaches to digital democracy, social neuroendocrinology, and gender and cultural informatics.

New draft charter to help increase diversity and inclusion at academic institutions
On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, on February 11, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, minister of Science and Sport, unveiled a draft made-in-Canada Athena SWAN Charter. The charter, which is based on the UK's Athena SWAN, will help further Canada's goals of advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in the research community and in classrooms.

Andrea Doucet, Canada Research Chair in Gender, Work and Care at Brock University, is studying the gender differences and inequalities in paid and unpaid work. Her research will help lead to better policies and community programs aimed at assisting Canadian families with work-life issues.
