The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council would like to express its regrets on the passing of Louise Dandurand, a former interim president of SSHRC.
Prior to taking positions at the Université du Québec à Montréal and Concordia University, Louise served in different capacities over her many years at SSHRC—including director of Policy and Planning (1987-89); and secretary general responsible for policy, planning, and evaluation of communications and legal services (1989-96). She was appointed interim president for a brief term in 1994. Louise later became president of L’Association francophone pour le savoir (L’Acfas).
In every role she assumed, Louise did so with a fierce dedication to furthering the administration of university research in Canada. In testament to this, she received many honours and awards throughout her career, including being named an Officer of L’Ordre National du Québec in 2016, the province’s highest tribute.
We will remember Louise for her enormous contribution to SSHRC, and to the social sciences and humanities research community.
