Guide for SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship holders, Canadian Graduate Scholarships doctoral and master's scholarship holders and Vanier Graduate Scholarships holders, registered at Canadian universities

Introduction

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) have harmonized their policies and procedures for the payment and administration of awards for postgraduate study. Award holders will receive payment of their awards through their university, which will also be responsible for managing the awards according to the councils' regulations.

The information in this Guide takes effect April 1, 2007. It supersedes all SSHRC's statements on award regulations.

It is intended for use by students holding one of the following awards at a Canadian university:

  • SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship
  • Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) Doctoral Scholarship
  • CGS Master's Scholarship
  • William E. Taylor Fellowship
  • Queen's Fellowship
  • Vanier CGS

Please read this Guide carefully. It contains essential information regarding the payment and administration of your award.

Information pertaining to Vanier CGS holders
All rules, regulations and procedures outlined in this guide apply to Vanier CGS recipients, except for those noted in the text.

SSHRC reserves the right to change award regulations and to interpret the provisions of this Guide, as well as any conditions attached to an award.

Note: All personal information collected by the Council is subject to the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

In this Guide:

  • "your university" refers to the university at which you are registered as a full-time student during the tenure of your award.

  • "Council" refers to SSHRC.
