This pie chart shows the distribution of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grants and scholarships, by research area. SSHRC’s total grants and scholarships investments for fiscal year 2011-12 were 339.3 million dollars, excluding the Indirect Costs Program.
The chart presents five specific research areas falling within Government of Canada science and technology priority research areas. These represent 84.6 million dollars, or 25 per cent of SSHRC’s total grants and scholarships investments.
The five science and technology priority research areas are presented showing SSHRC’s investment in each area and what that investment represents as a percentage of SSHRC’s total grants and scholarships expenditures. SSHRC spent:
- 21.4 million dollars on Environmental Science and Technologies, 6 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 2.4 million dollars on Natural Resources and Energy, 1 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 14.3 million dollars on Health and Related Life Sciences and Technologies, 4 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 25.2 million dollars on Information and Communications Technologies, 7 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures; and
- 21.4 million dollars on Management, Business and Finance, 6 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures.
The pie chart also shows SSHRC’s investment in several other research areas and what that investment represents as a percentage of SSHRC’s total grants and scholarships expenditures. SSHRC spent:
- 52.4 million dollars on Arts and Culture, 16 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 27.9 million dollars on Economy, Employment and Markets, 8 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 31.1 million dollars on Education and Learning, 9 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 22.4 million dollars on Human Development, 7 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 66.8 million dollars on Social Development, 20 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures;
- 36.7 million dollars on Governance of Society and Institutions, 11 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures; and
- 17.5 million dollars on Other Areas, 5 per cent of its grants and scholarships expenditures.
