Jo-ann Archibald

Jo-ann Archibald (Q’um Q’um Xiiem), from the Sto:lo Nation in southwestern British Columbia, is the associate dean for indigenous education and professor in The University of British Columbia (UBC) faculty of education. She received a bachelor of education from UBC, and a master of education and PhD from Simon Fraser University. Archibald is an editor of the Canadian Journal of Native Education. She has held positions at UBC that include director of the First Nations House of Learning and director of the Native Indian Teacher Education Program.
Archibald’s research interests relate to indigenous knowledge systems, storywork/oral tradition, transformative education, higher education, and indigenous methodologies. In 2000, she received a national achievement award in education from the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation. She is the author of Indigenous Storywork: Educating the Heart, Mind, Body, and Spirit.
